Advertising
Bots advertising other projects in chat channels
Threat Description
Bots join the discord server to advertise other projects in any available chat channels. They can get creative with how they do advertising:
If hyperlinks are deleted by automod, they will split the URL into multiple parts as plain text
If their text messages are deleted by automod, they will post images of the URLs
They may only target less active channels to avoid getting banned as quickly
Prevention
It's recommended to have an automod bot delete any messages containing links. Links can be allowed in certain channels like those dedicated to discussing other projects or twitter posts. Posting links can also be a privilege for Token Holders.
Adding domains like .com, .io, .xyz etc. to banned word blacklists will also prevent most advertising bots from being able to post, but there will always be ways around text filters if MMORPGs have taught us anything.
The last option for prevention is adding cooldowns enforced by the automod bot for posting links, images, or other media in allowed channels. Slow mode can also be enabled in the channels where it makes sense, like other project discussions (shills).
How to Respond to an Active Threat
Ban advertising accounts.
